Respectfully submitted, Richard C. Radi, Secretary W. Gary Laing, Worshipful Master BEFORE THE LODGE OPENED: On Friday, a bunch of us went to Nashville where we were given a tour of the Tennessee Grand Lodge building. Afterward, Brother (and Tour Guide) Rich Rust took Rich Radi, Wayne Price, Pat Mulligan (and wives) to Fort Negley in Nashville. Fort Negeley is the largest inland stone fort built during the Civil War in 1862. From August through December, more than 2700 conscript laborers, predominately runaway slaves and Free Blacks, constructed this fort which covers 4 acres and measures 600 feet long by 300 feet wide. There are 3 different levels and after trudging to the top, we knew why it was never attacked! Then Rich took us to the Nashville City Cemetery where we visited the graves of Generals Richard Ewell, Bushrod Johnson and Felix Zollicoffer. It was a great time! Thank you Rich! Tired but hungry, we met up with members of CWLR at the Cock-of-the-Walk restaurant in Nashville for dinner. Remarkably, 27 showed up for dinner! AFTER THE LODGE CLOSED; PROGRAM: We were given the history of Hiram Lodge #7, F.&A.M. which was Chartered in 1809. The Lodge is located near the center of the action at Franklin and we are very fortunate to still have it standing. Gary and members placed a wreath at the Confederate Cemetery next to the Carnton Mansion. A good time was had by all!
